Every Dynamic Technology Lab round: what it tests and how to prepare
1Written Math OA
DTL's signature filter, a severe one: a written olympiad-style math paper graded on rigor. The 2024-10-13 capture had seven proof questions (no MCQ): round-robin pigeonhole, mod-20 number-theory bound, ruler-and-compass weighted Fermat-point construction, Guan Dan joker-distribution expectation (N→∞ limit), SVD/PCA derivation, coin-sliding combinatorial game, change-making (ballot) probability.
Question types: mostly combinatorics, optimization and probability, especially pigeonhole.
How to prepare
- Train proofs, not pattern-matching. These are competition-math problems — pigeonhole, invariants, extremal arguments, generating functions, and clean induction do most of the work. Rehearse writing a complete, airtight proof under a clock.
- Cover the five pillars. The paper deliberately spans combinatorics, number theory, geometry (ruler-and-compass + optimization), probability/expectation, and linear algebra (SVD/PCA). Do not go in strong on probability and blank on a construction proof.
- Show your work fully. Partial credit is real on a written paper; a well-structured argument that stalls beats a bare answer. State assumptions and edge cases explicitly.

2Technical Interview
After the written paper, technical rounds stay quantitative: probability, statistics, and linear algebra for research candidates, plus a coding round (C++/Python, data structures, complexity) for developer and data tracks. Candidate-reported detail on the loop beyond the OA is thin: expect the same proof-and-reasoning bar carried into a live conversation.
Question types: mostly optimization and probability.
How to prepare
- Re-derive the classics live. Be ready to set up an expectation via first-step analysis, derive OLS/PCA from scratch, and reason about eigen-structure — the OA topics reappear conversationally.
- For dev tracks, write clean C++/Python. Talk through complexity and edge cases; DTL is an engineering-serious shop.
- Narrate your reasoning. As on the paper, a clear structured argument is what they score.

3Final / Research Deep-Dive
A closing round focused on research depth and fit: walk through past projects, defend modeling choices, and show you can own a problem end-to-end. Candidate-reported specifics are limited; prepare a tight research story and be ready to reason about a model from data to signal.
How to prepare
- Have one research project you can defend to the studs — why the data, why the model, how you validated, what you would do next.
- Show ownership. Small research-led shops hire for people who drive their own ideas, not just execute tasks.

A 4-week Dynamic Technology Lab prep plan
Built from the order of Dynamic Technology Lab's rounds and the topics in each round's practice set. Compress it if your first interview is sooner.
| When | Focus | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | Foundations | Review combinatorics, optimization and probability, the topics that dominate Dynamic Technology Lab's practice sets. Start with Probability course and Optimization course. Work the easy and medium questions in the Dynamic Technology Lab question set. |
| Week 2 | Early rounds: Written Math OA | Practice combinatorics, optimization and probability under time pressure, and take the free OA sample (format notes in the OA guide). Talk every answer through out loud; interviewers score the reasoning. |
| Week 3 | Later rounds: Technical Interview and Final / Research Deep-Dive | Move to optimization and probability. Do timed coding sessions in your interview language. Read how quant superdays work. |
| Week 4 | Rehearse the full loop | Run each practice round in order, redo the questions you missed, and prepare two project stories plus a specific answer to "why Dynamic Technology Lab?" (see behavioral questions at trading firms). |
Dynamic Technology Lab pay
| Role | Level | Total comp | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quant Researcher | New grad (MS/PhD) | candidate-reported, wide range | Base + performance bonus; Singapore market. Data is sparse — verify against a recent offer before anchoring. |
| Quant Developer | New grad | candidate-reported, wide range | Engineering ladder; bonus tied to firm performance. Sparse data. |
Total compensation means base salary plus bonus and any sign-on, as candidates self-report it. Job postings usually show base salary only, so posted figures and outside salary pages often look lower. Rough ranges only, NOT offers. DTL does not publish comp and reliable data points are thin; treat everything here as candidate-reported and directional. Source: Candidate self-reports / public aggregators (Glassdoor, forums) — not employer-verified. Singapore-based comp is often quoted in SGD. Last updated July 17, 2026.
Dynamic Technology Lab teams and what their interviews test
DTL hires a small number of high-signal people across research and engineering. All quant tracks share the same front gate, the written math OA, and then diverge into research-heavy or build-heavy loops.
| Tracks | What it does | What its interviews test |
|---|---|---|
| Quantitative Researcher Quant Researcher | Design and backtest trading models — the core of the final strategies. Work solo or in small groups depending on the project. | Written math OA → probability / statistics / linear-algebra interviews → research deep-dive. Proof fluency and modeling intuition. |
| Quant Developer / C++ Quant Developer | Build and optimize the research and trading infrastructure that turns models into live orders. | Written math OA → coding round (C++/Python, data structures, complexity) → systems discussion. Strong CS fundamentals expected. |
| Data Engineer Data Engineer | Ingest, clean, and serve the market and alternative data the researchers depend on. | Coding + data-pipeline design, plus the shared quantitative screen. Reliability and data hygiene. |

Founded 2009 in Singapore
Dynamic Technology Lab Pte Ltd (DTL) was established in Singapore in 2009 as a quantitative investment manager trading global securities across multiple asset classes. Candidate lore has it starting from a home garage; it is now an established, MAS-licensed Licensed Fund Management Company, with additional offices in Shanghai, Beijing, and Hanoi.
Culture
Research-first and heavily mathematical. Founded in 2009 (candidate lore: started in a home garage) and grown into an established MAS-licensed fund management company. Small teams, researchers work in groups or independently depending on the project; creativity and mathematical firepower are prized over process.
What the interviews feel like
Front-loaded with a genuinely hard written math paper — the make-or-break stage. Interviews that follow probe the same muscles: probability, statistics, linear algebra, and (for dev tracks) clean C++/Python. They want to see rigorous reasoning and correct proofs, not memorized answers.
