The IMC Trading Technical Round interview is stage 5 of 7 in the IMC Trading interview process, after the Trader / Market-Making Game Round. Format: 45–60 min · video · math / stats / coding / ML. The quant research technical round: probability and statistics, a dynamic-programming or combinatorics coding problem, and, for the machine-learning variant, ML fundamentals (information gain, decision trees, classification, model trade-offs) plus an ML coding task and a Monte Carlo or optimization segment.

How to prepare for the Technical Round

  • Be fluent in the ML basics they probe: information gain / decision-tree splits, bias-variance & regularization, and when a simple model beats a complex one.
  • Expect a clean coding problem (2-D DP, combination sum) alongside the math — practice translating a probability/combinatorics setup into code.
