Valkyrie Trading Online Assessment: Sequences and Probability Test
Valkyrie Trading, the Chicago options market maker, sends junior trader applicants a timed HackerRank assessment. Candidates from 2024 to 2026 report about 12 or 13 typed questions, number sequences first and then probability, at roughly two minutes each, plus one short coding task (a regular expression). The clock is reported as about 25 minutes for the math part or 30 minutes in total. An older 2022 to 2023 version had 20 typed questions in 30 minutes. The 12-question math part is rebuilt below as a timed replica with a free sample.
Valkyrie sequences and probability test: 12 questions in 25 minutes
A replica of the math part of Valkyrie's online assessment: candidates report 12 to 13 typed questions, number sequences first and then probability, at roughly two minutes each. This replica covers the 12-question math part only.
- 12 typed questions in 25 minutes: sequences first, then probability; typed answers
- Questions 1 to 6: what is the next number (integers or simple fractions); questions 7 to 12: green-book probability and expectation
- Candidates report the 2024 to 2026 version on HackerRank with a short coding task (a regex) as well, about 25 minutes for the math (30 minutes total in 2024); this replica covers the 12-question math part only
- An older 2022 to 2023 version is reported as 20 typed questions in 30 minutes (10 sequences, then 10 probability, stats and finance)
- +1 per correct answer, 0 for wrong or blank; fractions or decimals accepted
The free sample draws a fresh mix from its own question pool on every retake, separate from the full run, which draws from a larger pool of its own. The review explains every answer.
- Spend about a minute per sequence: take first differences, then ratios, then split odd and even positions; if none of those click, test primes and squares.
- Bank the sequences quickly so the probability half gets its two to three minutes each.
- For probability, write the sample space or the recursion before any arithmetic, and keep fractions exact until the last step.
- Typing a fraction is safer than a rounded decimal: 7/11 is always exact, 0.636 is not 4 decimal places.
Practice the two halves
The sequences half rewards a fixed checklist (differences, ratios, alternating positions, then known ladders such as primes and squares); the probability half is green-book level with exact answers. The free resources below drill each half on its own.

Sources and how current this is
Format facts come from candidate reports summarised on Glassdoor and by interview prep sites between 2022 and 2026 (a September 2024 report counts 13 questions including the coding task; a May 2026 report describes about 25 minutes for the math). Valkyrie does not publish its test format, so treat counts and timings as candidate-reported. Every practice question here is original and generated, and every answer is checked by code.
Valkyrie Trading OA: FAQ
What is on the Valkyrie Trading online assessment?
Candidates report a HackerRank test of about 12 or 13 typed questions: number sequences first, then probability, plus a short regular-expression coding task. Older versions had 20 typed questions in 30 minutes.
How long is the Valkyrie test?
Reports give either about 25 minutes for the math questions or 30 minutes for the whole test including coding. The replica gives 25 minutes for the 12 math questions, roughly two minutes each.
Are the Valkyrie answers typed?
Yes. Candidates report typed answers, so exact fractions matter; the replica accepts a reduced fraction or a decimal to the stated precision.
Is the Valkyrie practice test free?
The replica has a free timed sample of six questions with no signup that ends in a scored review. The full 12-question simulation, which draws a fresh mix on every run, is part of QuantVault Pro.
