What the HR + Technical Interview tests

Candidates report a short HR element, mental maths with percentages, probability, brainteasers, sometimes a first market-making exercise without pen and paper. One late-2025 intern report: a confidence interval estimate, comparing a large power with a factorial. Practise: probability, estimation facts, Fermi estimation.

  • With a trader and HR, between about 15 and 40 minutes: percentages, a confidence-interval estimate, comparing the sizes of large numbers, and a first market-making game.

How to prepare for the HR + Technical Interview

  • Think out loud. Traders want to hear your estimate, the check and the correction.
  • Use logs for size comparisons. Stirling's approximation settles power versus factorial questions in a few lines.
