Every Wincent round: what it tests and how to prepare
1Recruiter Screen
An intro conversation about background, motivation for crypto market making, and logistics before the quant test is sent out.
How to prepare
- Know why crypto market making — spreads and inventory, not directional bets.
- Have your quant story ready — probability background carries the funnel.
- Ask about the process — the quant test is timed and cannot be paused.
2Online Assessment: Quant Test
A webcam-proctored, fullscreen Testlify quant test: 12 numeric-entry problems on probability and common logic in two sections: 6 low-difficulty questions in 40 minutes, then 6 medium questions in 60 minutes. Pen, paper, and a simple non-programmable calculator only; skip is allowed but there is no revisiting. Our timed replica with verified answers is on the OA page.
Question types: mostly expectation and probability. Latest candidate report for this round: Jun 2023.
How to prepare
- It is all probability and EV — geometric series, Bayes, Markov chains, linearity of expectation.
- Answers are plain numbers — match the stated precision (2 decimals where asked).
- Budget per section — about 6-7 min/question in section 1, 10 min/question in section 2; skip decisively, you cannot come back.

3Quant Interviews
Technical interviews built around the market maker's bread and butter: setting zero-profit bid-ask quotes, pricing adverse selection, skewing for inventory, and sizing repeated bets Kelly-style, alongside probability brain-teasers.
Question types: mostly expectation, game theory and probability, especially conditional probability and expected value. Latest candidate report for this round: Jun 2023.
How to prepare
- Quote from first principles — write the expected P&L per fill, set it to zero, then round to a tick.
- Turn posteriors into prices — condition on the side of the incoming trade before quoting.
- Kelly and fractional Kelly — know when and why to size down.

4Coding / Quant Developer Round
For the Quant Developer track: build and reason about order-book machinery (matching engines, price impact, execution) with clean data structures and explicit edge cases (cancels, partial fills).
How to prepare
- Model the book first — price levels, queues, then operations.
- Edge cases are the test — cancels, stops, partial fills.
- Keep it clean — correctness and clarity over cleverness.

A 4-week Wincent prep plan
Built from the order of Wincent's rounds and the topics in each round's practice set. Compress it if your first interview is sooner.
| When | Focus | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | Foundations | Review expectation, probability and game theory, the topics that dominate Wincent's practice sets. Start with Probability course. Work the easy and medium questions in the Wincent question set. |
| Week 2 | Early rounds: Recruiter Screen and Online Assessment | Practice expectation and probability under time pressure, and take the free OA sample (format notes in the OA guide). Talk every answer through out loud; interviewers score the reasoning. |
| Week 3 | Later rounds: Quant Interviews and Coding / Quant Developer Round | Move to expectation, game theory and probability. Rehearse quoting markets with the Make a Market game and read the market-making game guide. Do timed coding sessions in your interview language. Read how quant superdays work. |
| Week 4 | Rehearse the full loop | Run each practice round in order, redo the questions you missed, and prepare two project stories plus a specific answer to "why Wincent?" (see behavioral questions at trading firms). |
