What the Technical Interviews tests

Reported: optimal-stopping and probability games (alternating flips stopping at HT/HTH, dice optimal stopping, airplane seats, roulette adjacent bullets, correlation of ±1 variables given P(same sign)); regression theory (Gauss-Markov, linear-in-parameters, k > n and ridge, swapping/rescaling X, why raw time series breaks OLS); and live pandas/SQL (groupwise max, k-th largest per name).

  • Regularisation comes up: ridge and lasso, and what happens with more features than observations.

How to prepare for the Technical Interviews

  • For ±1 correlation: since both are mean-0/variance-1, corr = E[XY] = 2·P(same sign) − 1 — memorize the shortcut.
  • Set up stopping games with first-step analysis; for HT/HTH know why the two stopping sequences differ.
