Quant Online Assessments: every firm’s OA, explained
Quant OAs come in four formats — timed math screens, auto-graded coding tests, cognitive batteries, and game-based simulations. Firms reuse stable question banks year over year, so preparing for the exact format, not generic math, is what moves your pass odds. Every firm guide below includes free practice in the real format. For the data view — every firm’s format, platform and timing in one sortable table — see the OA Census 2026–27.
The four formats
Math & probability screens
Speed math against a clock: EV of games, Bayes, gambler’s ruin, counting — one to two minutes a question, usually no calculator.
Coding OAs
HackerRank / Codility / CodeSignal sets graded on hidden tests. Some pools rotate; several firms reuse a small stable canon where prep pays double.
Cognitive & aptitude batteries
SHL-style pattern, numerical and values tests. Interactive replicas of the best-known ones are free on QuantVault.
Game-based simulations
Real-time games measuring reaction, calibration and decisions under uncertainty — the flagship being Optiver’s suite, fully replicated here.
