Every Man Group round: what it tests and how to prepare
1Online Assessment
Candidates report five parts. 1. Numerical reasoning: Quick arithmetic on data tables. 2. Number patterns: 50 questions in 10 minutes. 3. Logical reasoning, bank-style: Whether one statement supports another or is irrelevant to it, and whether an action correctly follows a workplace rule and whether its result was expected. 4. Coding: An array-based task. 5. Probability: About 10 to 12 questions in roughly 12 minutes. One candidate summed it up as Optiver-style speed tests plus an investment bank aptitude test. The platform may be Correlation One (a logo on screen suggests it), unconfirmed. Practise with number sequences, Optiver Number Logic, probability questions and coding questions.
Question types: mostly coding and finance.
How to prepare
- Twelve seconds a pattern. 50 sequences in 10 minutes rewards instant recognition of differences, ratios and interleaved series.
- Check the table's hidden rules. Numerical items often fix a ratio (overhead as a share of cost) or an identity (profit equals sales minus costs); find it from the complete rows first.
- Probability is short and fast. About a minute per question: conditional probability, expected value and counting.

2Technical Interview
Candidates report a three-part technical interview, no resume questions. Man Group's careers page also lists pre-recorded video or telephone interviews (via Sonru) for shortlists.
A September 2026 report (medium-confidence attribution): coding the fewest fountains to water a line, each spraying a given distance left and right (maybe the OA's coding part). Statistics: multicollinearity (what it breaks, fixes, regularization trade-offs, how PCA works). Math: feasible range of a common pairwise correlation among n assets. See regression questions and linear algebra questions.
Question types: mostly coding, linear algebra and regression, especially correlation, eigenvalues and matrix operations.
How to prepare
- Know regularization trade-offs cold. Ridge, lasso and elastic net behave differently on correlated features; say what each keeps and drops.
- Greedy interval cover. Coverage tasks on a line usually reduce to sorting reach and extending the covered prefix as far as possible.

3Final Interviews / Assessment Day
Man Group's careers page says final-stage candidates meet business representatives in face-to-face interviews or assessment days, in office or virtually by role. We do not yet hold a verified 2027 report. Expect the technical interview's mix plus systematic-investing motivation; below: every bank problem candidates tied to Man Group.
Question types: mostly coding, linear algebra and regression, especially correlation, eigenvalues and matrix operations.
How to prepare
- Know why AHL. Systematic, research-led investing; be ready to discuss a research project of your own in depth.
- Report what you get. This stage will be rebuilt from the first verified 2027 report.

Intern vs full-time
Man Group's students page says AHL quant summer interns work on a research project with a mentor, and strong performers can be offered a place on the AHL Quant Talent Programme.
A 4-week Man Group prep plan
Built from the order of Man Group's rounds and the topics in each round's practice set. Compress it if your first interview is sooner.
| When | Focus | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | Foundations | Review coding, linear algebra and regression, the topics that dominate Man Group's practice sets. Start with Quant coding course and Linear algebra course. Work the easy and medium questions in the Man Group question set. |
| Week 2 | Early rounds: Online Assessment and Technical Interview | Practice coding, finance and linear algebra under time pressure, and read the OA guide. Add a daily mental-math drill. Talk every answer through out loud; interviewers score the reasoning. |
| Week 3 | Later rounds: Final Interviews / Assessment Day | Move to linear algebra and regression. Read how quant superdays work. |
| Week 4 | Rehearse the full loop | Run each practice round in order, redo the questions you missed, and prepare two project stories plus a specific answer to "why Man Group?" (see behavioral questions at trading firms). |
